Internet PARS (Personal and Academic Records)

Internet Personal & Academic Records (PARs) are Web based record systems, used and kept by institutions, tutors, and learners working together. Developed jointly for undergraduates by the Universities of Newcastle and Nottingham (with DfEE funding), Internet-PARs are currently being applied to support CPD (continuing professional development) in Medicine (pre-registration house officers) and Education (newly-qualified teachers). The phase 2 Project (2000-2002), with Innovations funding from the DfEE, includes the dissemination of experience of implementing both paper-based and web-based PARs at the institutional level.

ePortfolio

This is a collaborative FDTL4 project led by the Faculty of Medical Sciences Computing (FMSC) at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and involving the universities of Leeds, Sheffield, St Andrews and Dundee. This HEFCE funded project aims to develop electronic portfolios and embed them within the online curricula (including Virtual Learning Environments) for undergraduates studying Medicine. It aims to develop 'generic' tools that may be applied to other subjects and contexts. The project aims to satisfy both requirements for PDP in the wider HE sector and increasing demands within Medicine for reflective clinical practice and to develop life-long learners with skills and experience appropriate for appraisal, assessment and on-going professional revalidation.
